An old man is sweeping in front of an ageing house in the Japanese countryside. Across the street, a statue of Jizo is holding silent watch. Suddenly, a little girl appears and starts eating the offerings laid out in front of the Jizo. As the old man tries to stop her, both he and the girl learn some surprising truths.

*Jizo is a Buddhist saint who is worshiped all over Japan as protector of travelers and of children who died so young that they haven't had a chance to be virtuous, and thus can’t cross over to the next life and are stuck in limbo. But what might this protection look like?
